Rescuers Pull 18-Year-Old Drowning Victim from Canyon Lake

An 18-year-old Schertz man who was underwater and missing for 20 minutes in Canyon Lake on Monday was rescued by divers and transported to a local hospital.

Comal County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Jennifer Smith said Alek Johnson was pronounced dead at an area hospital.

First responders with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD), Canyon Lake Fire & EMS and the Comal County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported drowning at Boat Ramp #3 in Comal Park on the south side of Canyon Lake, TPWD Public Information Officer Maggie Berger said.

The drowning victim had been underwater for approximately 20 minutes when Canyon Lake Fire & EMS’s dive team found him in eight feet of water.

CPR was performed.

The initial 9-1-1 call was received at 12: 10 p.m. according to Comal County Scanner’s Facebook page. Divers were in the water by 12:27 p.m. and the victim’s body was recovered minutes later.
