Comal County lifted the burn ban today for unincorporated areas like Canyon Lake.

However, high winds are expected today and Tuesday as a cold front moves through the area.

Under Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) rules, it is illegal to burn if winds are forecast to exceed 23 mph.

“A fire can get out of control very quickly in windy conditions, putting people and property at risk,” county spokesperson Cary Zayas said in a statement. “You could also face criminal charges if your fire causes injuries or property damage.”
