A 45-year-old Canyon Lake man who was arrested after Comal Sheriff’s Office deputies discovered methamphetamine in his backpack was sentenced to 20 years in prison Feb. 2 by Judge Dib Waldrip of the 433rd District Court in New Braunfels.
Joshua Weaver was convicted of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.
The Comal County District Attorney’s Office said charges stemmed from a traffic stop in March 2018 near the intersection of FM 2673 and Overhill Street.
Comal County Sheriff’s Office deputies obtained consent to search the vehicle from the driver and a K-9 dog alerted them to Weaver’s backpack, which contained a lockbox with a scale, multiple plastic bags containing methamphetamine, empty bags, and a glass pipe with crystal residue.
“Due to the continued effort of the CCSO-Directed Deployment Unit to rid our county of narcotics, a drug dealer was taken off the streets,” the district attorney’s office said in a statement. “Thank you to all law enforcement who work tirelessly to keep Comal County safe.”
Did time stop at 1986 in Hays County? Apparently so. But please: It’s way past time to end the mindless practice of saddling Texas taxpayers with the enormous cost of housing low-level drug dealers — in this case, $2 million or more if this guy serves the full 20 years. Nothing is accomplished; he will simply be replaced by another fool.
Should be Comal County.
As respects the individual who received a 20 year jail sentence— for selling Speed,, Kuddos to our Sheriffs office,,, but a F grade to our Judicial system for taking almost 4 years to deliver justice!
