Comal County today confirmed the COVID-19 death of a child under the age of 18.
The child died at home on Feb. 22. Public Health did not release any further information. The total number of deceased is now 530.
In a statement, the county also reported 111 new COVID-19 cases today. The total number of cases reported since March 2020 is now 30,187.
On Monday the county reported 24 new COVID-19 cases and two deaths.
A Canyon Lake man in his 70s died Feb. 10 at a San Antonio hospital. A New Braunfels woman in her 90s died Feb. 14 at a New Braunfels hospital.
Local hospitals are caring for 17 COVID-positive patients. Of those, four are in intensive care and one is on a ventilator. Approximately 54% of these patients are unvaccinated.
Not all COVID-positive patients hospitalized in Comal County are necessarily residents.
Some 63.74% of county residents are fully vaccinated (two shots) against the virus.

Public Health is administering Moderna COVID-19 vaccines for those 18 and older, and Pfizer vaccines for anyone five years and up. Booster vaccines also are available.
