Canyon Lake Water Service Company (CLWSC) will implement Stage 1 drought restrictions beginning April 18.

In an email to customers today, CLWSC, also known as SJWTX, said the new watering restrictions allow one day per week of watering based on a customer’s address. Watering by hand, soaker hoses and drip irrigation are permitted any day.

This is a change from twice-weekly watering under the current year-round watering schedule.

Also today, New Braunfels Utilities (NBU) officially entered Stage 2 drought restrictions.

In a press release, the utility said watering with a sprinkler or irrigation system is allowed one day per week based on the last digit of customers’ addresses.

Watering must occur before 10 a.m. and after 8 p.m.

“New Braunfels has been in Stage 1 drought restrictions since March 10 due to insufficient rains, warmer-than-usual temperatures, and increased demand for water supply,” NBU said.

Watering with a hand-held hose, bucket, soaker hose, drip irrigation system, or a soaker hose that does not spray water into the air is allowed on any day before 10 a.m. and after 8 p.m. The use of a sprinkler or irrigation system is not permitted on weekends.

The City of New Braunfels determines the implementation and termination of water-reduction measures based on the 10-day average of J-17 Edwards Aquifer levels or when discharge from Comal Springs is at or below the specified cubic feet-per-second.

“Today, the 10-day average for the J-17 well is 649.6 feet, triggering Stage 2,” NBU said.
