Area voters will get a closer look today at candidates for Texas House District 73 and contenders for Comal ISD’s Single Member District #6.
A debate between Carrie Isaac and Barron Casteel, two Republican candidates vying for the chance to represent the newly redistricted political subdivision, is scheduled from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. today at Creekside’s Village Venue, 2032 Central Plaza, New Braunfels.
Fourth-generation Texan Isaac describes herself as a proud Christian, wife, mother, small business owner and conservative Republican candidate.
Casteel said he is a husband, father, former New Braunfels mayor, and lifelong conservative.
The pre-runoff election debate is sponsored by New Braunfels Conservatives.
The Comal ISD Council of PTAs is sponsoring a candidate forum for Single Member District #6 on the board of trustees. Amber Bracegirdle will face off against Amanda Jones at 6 p.m. in Pieper Ranch Middle School’s gym, 1106 Kinder Pkwy, San Antonio.
San Antonio native Bracegirdle is one of four co-founders of Mediavine, an ad-management firm that works with small business owners around the world. According to her campaign bio, she hopes to use this technology and business expertise to help Comal ISD navigate the future.
Smithson Valley High School graduate Amanda Jones grew up in Comal County, earned her bachelor’s degree in nutrition at University of Texas at Austin, and works as a nutritional territory manager for Nestle Health Science.
She has served on numerous Comal ISD-related committees, including Comal Forward Bond, facilities improvement, kindergarten panels and a mental-health task force. A graduate of the first class of Comal Council PTA Comal Leaders Academy, she also volunteers for the Pieper Warrior Youth Football Association.
Elections are set for May 7.
