Canyon Lake recreation areas operated by the U.S. Army Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) are fully accessible and open to the public this weekend.
However, Overlook Park, famous for its spectacular views of Canyon Lake and easy access to the shoreline, will close when all of its limited parking spaces are full.
“If the park gates are closed it is because the park has reached capacity,” said USACE Lake Manager Javier Pérez Ortiz. “Because the area has limited capacity for safety purposes, users are encouraged to plan ahead and arrive early and we urge park visitors to use caution when on or around the water and to always wear your life jacket.”
Swimming is not allowed on Overlook Park’s shoreline.
Wait, “Swimming is not allowed on Overlook Park’s shoreline.” ?
It never has been. The water there is considered very dangerous due to currents and sub-surface rocks, etc.
Rt, since when?! I’ve lived in this area since ’92 and not once has this rule ever been inforced. Nor are there signs saying no swimming.
