Former Canyon High School teacher Emily Marie Anderson, 35, pleaded guilty in district court Monday to all charges of having sex in a school closet with a 15-year-old student.
Under terms of a plea deal reached at a pre-trial hearing in Judge Bruce Boyer’s 22nd District Court, the former special education inclusion support teacher and assistant cheer assistant received 10 years probation, 60 days in Comal County Jail, and a $2,000 fine.
She must register as a sex offender and complete 500 hours of community service. Under terms of a lifetime protective order, she is banned from having any contact with the victim.
Anderson was arrested Aug. 16, 2021, after an ongoing investigation by New Braunfels Police Department detectives revealed explicit text messages on the male student’s phone.
She was released on a $50,000 bond.
Anderson faced second-degree felony charges of sexual assault of a child and improper relationship between an educator/student, two to 20 years in jail and a fine of up to $10,000.
