Former New Braunfels City Council member Matthew Hoyt will represent Comal and Guadalupe counties as District 9 director for the Edwards Aquifer Authority (EAA).
He was sworn in on Dec. 13.
EAA is a regional water-management agency that regulates the use of the aquifer by mandating a capped permitting system that limits withdrawals from the aquifer.
“I look forward to getting to work for the people of Comal and Guadalupe Counties to represent their interests in this resource, to work with the EAA to protect the water rights of those in Comal and Guadalupe Counties and to work towards conserving the aquifer to ensure the costs of future droughts are mitigated for those in this area,” he said in a statement. “Sustainable conservation practices and improvements to the habitat conservation plans will help us work towards a healthy aquifer for generations to come.”
Hoyt also served on the New Braunfels River Activities Committee, the New Braunfels Planning and Zoning Commission, and as chairman of the New Braunfels Development Advisory Committee. He also sat on the New Braunfels Utilities Water and Wastewater Advisory Board.
He is a member of the Greater New Braunfels Area Chamber of Commerce, a past president of the New Braunfels Eagles Aerie #2999, and a former member of the CASA of Central Texas Board of Directors.
Hoyt was named a Herald-Zeitung Pillar of the Community and a Rising Star of New Braunfels. He also is a member of the World Affairs Council of San Antonio and is a member of the Texas Rivers Protection Association.
He is married to Kristen Hoyt, Comal County’s Tax Assessor-Collector.
