Comal County Tax Assessor-Collector Kristen Hoyt will appear at “pop-up” clinics around the county to personally answer questions about property taxes, which are due by Jan. 31.
No other county tax office in Texas offers this type of cost-effective access, she said.
Rapid growth in Comal County is putting the squeeze on office space and staffing.
“We are trying to serve the county with the same facilities and resources we have had for many years while maintaining individualized and outstanding customer service,” Hoyt said. “I believe it is a cost-effective way to be of service to our county and we want to always lead in innovation as it pertains to saving taxpayers money and providing resources.”
One of those clinics will be scheduled at a Canyon Lake Fire/EMS station. The date and location are still to be determined
The tax office’s first pop-up clinic, “Coffee with the Collector,” was at Grumpy’s Mexican Cafe in San Antonio in December. There are no satellite offices in that part of the county like those in Sattler, 160 Oak Dr., Canyon Lake, and Bulverde, 30470 Cougar Bend.
The Comal County Tax Office’s main office is located in downtown New Braunfels, 205 N. Seguin Ave.
Hoyt said City Administrator Nancy Cain agreed to limited hours inside Garden Ridge City Hall, 9400 Municipal Pkwy. San Antonio, throughout January.
They are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 17, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 24, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 31.
“We recognize a lot of citizens prefer to speak to a professional in person about property taxes or their motor vehicle questions,” Hoyt said. “I want to bridge that gap of services and bring accessibility and resources to all corners of the county.”
County commissioners included funding for two new tax office positions in their 2023 budget.
Hoyt was sworn into office on Jan. 1, 2021. Since then, costs-per-taxpayer have not increased, she said.
