Guadalupe Ready Mix, a leading supplier of concrete for the aggregate industry, is asking the City of Garden Ridge for a variance that would allow silos at a new plant to exceed 2 1/2 stories (35 feet) in height on a 7.5-acre property located at 20762 FM 2252.
The city’s Board of Adjustment will conduct a public hearing on the matter starting at 6 p.m. Wednesday in city council chambers, 9400 Municipal Pkwy.
The concrete company is asking to build silos that are 86-feet and 5/16th inches and 70-feet and 5/8 inches.

According to plans submitted by Earl & Associates, a law firm, the plant is located in an industrial zone intended primarily for mining, excavation, quarrying, processing, storage, warehousing, shipping and manufacturing of cement, concrete, brick, asphalt, stone, and crushed rock.
Preserve Our Hill Country Environment, a nonprofit Comal County environmental group, took to Facebook to express its dismay over Garden Ridge’s potential new neighbor:
“Live, work, or go to school in the Garden Ridge area or southern Comal County? Guadalupe Ready Mix has applied for a special use permit and variance to build a concrete batch plant within the Garden Ridge city limits. It would be catty-corner to Bracken UMC & Preschool, next to two historic cemeteries, less than three miles from CISD Danville Middle, Comal Creek Elementary, and CISD Garden Ridge Elementary schools. It will be four miles from CISD Davenport High School and approximately 1.3 miles from the nearest subdivision, Regency Oaks. It will join more than 20 aggregate production operations (APOs) within a fifteen-mile radius. Air pollution, water pollution, truck traffic, and road wear and tear are big concerns for area citizens.”
