According to Census.gov there are almost 15,000 veterans living in Comal County and this week residents can thank them for their service at several Veterans Day events planned in Canyon Lake and New Braunfels.
Nov. 11 is Veterans Day.
The week opens with Operation Green Light. Comal County Commissioners Court encourages businesses, the public and community partners to shine green lights from Monday, Nov. 6-Sunday, Nov. 12 to honor veterans.
Veterans and their families are welcome to enjoy breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 9 at Mountain Valley Elementary School, 310 Cannan Rd., Sattler/Canyon Lake. Program follows at 8 a.m. For more information email alice.tuckness@comalisd.org.
County officials will discuss services available through the Veterans Services Office from 8:30- 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 9 at Coffee & Donuts for Our Vets, 1297 Church Hill Dr., New Braunfels.
The Comal County Senior Citizens Foundation, 710 Landa St., New Braunfels, hosts its first Veterans Day Celebration from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10. Opening ceremony followed by pancake breakfast, “coffee and chat,” lunch, treats and veteran trivia. To learn more, click here.
The City of New Braunfels Veterans Day Parade and Ceremony begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11 followed by an 11 a.m. ceremony at Veteran’s Monument at Prince Solms Park, 100 Liebscher Dr., New Braunfels. Grand Marshal is World War 11 veteran Guadalupe ‘Lupe’ Suarez. Retired U.S. Army Col. Steve Cornelius is the guest speaker. For more information visit newbraunfels.gov/veteransday.
VFW Post 8573, 14625 River Rd., Sattler/Canyon Lake, honors veterans at a special 11 a.m. ceremony followed by a meal of hamburgers and chips on Saturday, Nov. 11. Free to veterans.
Proceeds from CWR Warriors Veterans Day Car Show benefit veterans. The event runs from 12-6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11 at Jumbo Evans Sports Park, 101 Jumbo Evans Blvd., Spring Branch. For more information click here.
Startz Memorial VFW Post 8800, 7755 FM 2673, Startzville/Canyon Lake, hosts a Veteran’s Day Dance from 5:30-9:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11. $10/plate with a choice of roasted pig or grilled chicken. Vets eat free with proof of service. Darrin Brown Band performs.
