Students with Canyon Lake High School’s (CLHS) FFA Ag Sales Team are on their way to national competition after winning the state title for their career-development event in late April.
The team will compete at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis this October.
Career-development events are designed to help students prepare for a career in agriculture by testing and challenging their technical, leadership, interpersonal and teamwork skills as well as their knowledge of subject matter.
Canyon High School’s Wool Team and Smithson Valley High School’s Milk Quality and Products Team also will compete at nationals.
Ag Sales Team
Coached by Emily Gwinn, Grant Cover won third place individual, and Carson Reinarz placed fifth in the state ag sales competition.
Also headed to nationals are Dean Platt and Dylan Wunderlich.
Team members were evaluated on customer relations, advertising and promotion, communications skills and product display.
They also completed an exam, presented a project summary and made a sales presentation for an agricultural product.
Dairy Cattle Team
CLHS’s Dairy Cattle Team placed fifth at state. Coached by Morgan Webel, team members include Reyse Brown, Krissie Feller, Eli Hammons and Dylan Wunderlich.
Forages Team
The school’s Forages Team placed ninth. Coached by Alyssa Hoskins, team members include Weston Ackermann, Gabby Fory, Emma Slater and Rylee Wunderlich.
