The Water Oriented Recreation District of Comal County (WORD) is building a new, ‘no frills’ office facility at 14041 FM 306 in Canyon Lake.
Staff currently work out of two buildings.
“This new office construction will put all staff in one place for a more efficient and cost-effective office setup as well as eliminating the cost of having two buildings and utilities,” WORD said on social media.
According to online records, the estimated cost of the new 3,420-square-foot building is $888,000. The project is described as an addition to an existing building.
WORD plans to sell its original office at 1928 FM 2673. Proceeds will fully fund the new facility, which opens in October.
WORD permits water-related businesses to collect user fees from customers visiting the district.
The majority of fees collected by the district are used to pay for regular cleanup efforts along the river, lake and popular roadways; law enforcement and emergency medical services; contributions to local projects and organizations to promote and improve the district; community education and outreach programs to promote safe and responsible water recreation; and public health and sanitation to include dumpsters and portable toilets for public use.
