A welfare check on a woman who allegedly made threats to harm herself and her boyfriend turned into a homicide/suicide investigation Saturday after New Braunfels police found a male and female dead in the bedroom of a house in the 900 block of Pumpkin Ridge in the Avery Park subdivision.
Each suffered fatal gunshot wounds, the New Braunfels Police Department (NBPD) said in a statement posted on Facebook today.
Police believe 32-year-old Abigail Garza of Robstown shot and killed 45-year-old Michael Burrer of New Braunfels before turning the gun on herself. Neither had made contact with family for several days prior to the murder.
Next of kin for both parties have been notified.
This is the first homicide in New Braunfels this year.
Garza’s sister, Savannah Medrano, said on Faceook Friday that she filed a missing persons report on Wednesday.
“She dropped off her phone and laptop to me before leaving, I never got a chance to see her but her text to me told me she was telling me goodbye,” Medrano said.
In an undated update to that post, she confirmed the family is mourning the loss of her “beautiful sister.”
“We’re asking for time and consideration,” she said.
