An abandoned $549,000 home at 630 Gallagher Dr. in Canyon Lake is a total loss after a blaze that started in the attic caused its roof to collapse around 2 p.m. Tuesday.
Fire Chief Robert Mikkel said several units with Canyon Lake Fire/EMS and a water tanker with Bulverde Spring Branch Emergency Services responded to the scene.
Thick, black smoke billowed upwards as firefighters worked to keep the fire contained.
Neighbors said the house has been empty for a long time. A video provided by Canyon Lake firefighters shows tree branches growing across the front door.
According to property records on the Comal County Appraisal District website, the home is owned by Cynthia Lee Cloyd of Livingston. She could not be immediately reached for comment.
The Comal County Fire Marshal’s Office said the cause of the blaze is yet to be determined.
Staff at the new Domino’s Pizza in Startzville donated pizza to crews working the scene.
Fax Chex… from your picture, it appears that, in addition to being abandoned, the structure was unfinished. Note the two double doors at the rear of the building. There is no deck or stairs to make these doors useful – except to jump from in case of a fire, the one door being already open… 😎
