Comal County Fire Marshal Kory Klabunde said the county lifted the burn ban today after the Keetch-Byram Drought Index (KBDI) fell to 493 points after Thursday’s rain.

By state law, counties must enact burn bans when the KBDI reaches 500 points.

“Conditions are still not great but we are currently below the threshold where the burn ban would go into effect,” he said. “Please follow all state burn rules. Especially watch out for high winds. By state law you cannot burn if the wind speeds are predicted to be over 23 mph during your burn period. Again, please be safe and cautious.”
