Things could get pretty noisey at the second crossing on River Road in New Braunfels Thursday.

Comal County’s new, state-of-the-art sirens will be tested from 9 a.m. to noon.

“It will get loud, but don’t worry, it’s just a test,” county spokesperson Cary Zayas said.

The second crossing over the Guadalupe River is 8 1/2 miles from Sattler/Canyon Lake and approximately 5.3 miles from the Shell gas station on Loop 337.

The old water-crossing sirens have been removed.

Sirens are located throughout the Upper and Lower Guadalupe River, according to the Water Oriented Water District of Comal County (WORD). The system has two components, river gauges and sirens.

When the river’s height is above sea level, the system will sound all sirens and notify the county.

Data from each gauge, including river height and rainfall, is available online. Businesses and residents can view the river height at each bridge crossing upstream from them, and make safety decisions based on that data.
