Thanks to the extraordinary efforts of Canyon Lake residents, businesses and organizations, VFW Post 8800’s 34th Annual 4th of July parade will roll through Startzville after all, starting at 10 a.m. Friday, July 4.
The beleaguered parade was initially canceled after VFW Quartermaster Tessa Teel, its organizer, resigned due to a medical crisis in May.
This year’s parade includes all of the customary holiday fanfare, including a flyover and lots of floats, trucks, jeeps and cars.
“The Independence Day Parade, organized by the VFW 8800, is shaping up to be a fabulous parade,” said Pct. 1 Comal County Commissioner Doug Leecock, who represents the south side of Canyon Lake. “Thank you to all those community members who came forward to volunteer their time, talents, and donations to plan, organize and provide for this memorable community event.”
Grand marshal is retired Comal County Sheriff’s Deputy Eddy Luna, who lost his right arm in 2020 after he was shot while trying to serve a warrant in Spring Branch.
Canyon Lake resident Tripp Marsalis will announce participants as they parade down FM 2673, which closes until 11:30 a.m.
The procession begins on the west side of Startzville and ends on Old Sattler Road near the Tiger Stop Convenience Store.

The best place to view Friday’s fireworks is from a lawn chair or a boat.
