Comal County Sheriff Mark Reynolds said evacuations are underway on River Road between Sattler/Canyon Lake and Gruene.
The road borders the Guadalupe River downstream from Canyon Lake.
A flash flood emergency has been issued. Flood sirens were activated. Campers are being evacuated. There are unconfirmed reports of several vehicles stalled or trapped at low-water crossings.
“If you live near the river, don’t wait for conditions to worsen” he said. “Move to higher ground now and stay tuned to official updates from Comal County and the National Weather Service.”
Four to six inches of rain fell in the area earlier today as a very slow-moving thunderstorm over Comal County produced extremely heavy rainfall of three to five inches per hour.
More storms may continue to move over the same areas and cause additional flooding.
On CCSO’s Facebook page, a member of the public said a fallen tree at Soggy Dollar Camp, 9168 River Rd., is preventing people from leaving.
Stay safe people! Prayers are with you.
I ran the river with a group from Baker Oil Tools when the dam was being built at Canyon Lake. 5400 CFM. Yes my insurance was paid up, but that didn’t stop wife from being mad. Boulder at Waco was covered with water. Was fool enough to run it twice
I can only imagine how much more dangerous it is.
Please stay safe out there.
I am sad for the lives lost.
