Two New Braunfels police officers are on administrative leave after they allegedly shot and killed a man around 4:15 p.m. Saturday while responding to a report of a disturbance in progress between a male suspect and a female victim at the Sage Apartments in the 2500 block of West San Antonio Street.

The officers arrived and “made contact” with both the male and female before the suspect brandished a sharp weapon and lunged in their direction, New Braunfels Police Department (NBPD) said in a statement.

Police fired department-issued service weapons, striking the suspect, who police later identified as a 33-year-old man from Spring, Texas.

Other police officers provided medical assistance until paramedics with the New Braunfels Fire Department arrived, but the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

The two officers involved have a combined total of four years of experience with NBPD and will remain on administrative leave pending the outcome of concurrent investigations by NBPD and the Texas Rangers.

The identity of the male suspect was not released pending notification of next of kin.
