Speaking at a candidate forum today, Comal County Republican Party Chair Anita Valdez described a fire that started around 2 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14 at party headquarters, 265 Landa St., New Braunfels, as an act of “political violence.”

There were no reports of injuries, and damage to the small facility was minimal.

Although the New Braunfels Police Department (NBPD) declined to comment on the suspected arson, Valdez said they are close to identifying the individual involved in the incident as well as their accomplices.

“Let me say this,” she said. “This could have been a much different outcome if the perpetrator succeeded in their mission to burn down our headquarters. Make no mistake, this is political violence, right here in New Braunfels. Let me also be clear. We will not cower. We will not stop our work.”

The FBI is working with local law enforcement on the investigation, Valdez said.

Candidates on the ballot for the March 3 Republican primary spoke at the event at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 111 Landa St.
