Comal ISD trustees approved academic calendars for the 2026-2027 and 2027-2028 school years at their Jan. 22 board meeting.
This is the first time the district has approved two years of academic calendars.
“We were able to adopt a two-year calendar for a few simple, yet crucial reasons,” said Ben Peacock, PhD, the district’s director of secondary leadership who spearheaded this year’s calendar development.
“We have an engaged community that deeply cares and is deeply invested in our schools, and we have a current academic calendar (2025-2026) that is effective and popular.”
The calendars were developed with the help of the District Educational Improvement Council (DEIC), which includes administrators, staff, parents, students, business leaders, and community leaders.
Highlights
In a statement, Comal ISD said the two-year calendar adoption will help bring “predictability” to families, teachers and students.
Families will be able to plan vacations in advance, and educators will be able to facilitate long-term instructional planning and staff development that meet the needs of Comal ISD students.
A few of the highlights for both calendars include the start dates of Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2026, and Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2027.
The last days of school are May 27, 2027 and May 25, 2028.
Spring breaks are scheduled from March 8-12, 2027, and from March 6-10, 2028.
