Early voting for the March 3 Democratic and Republican primary elections begins Tuesday, Feb. 17 and ends Friday, Feb. 27.

If you plan to Vote by Mail in the 2026 Texas Primary Election, send in your application now, the League of Women Voters of the Comal Area advises.

Due to new U.S. Postal Service (USPS) rules regarding the definition of “postmark,” applications must be processed — not received — by Friday, Feb. 20.

To avoid missing the deadline, drop off your Vote by Mail application in person at Comal County’s Elections Office or ask for it to be hand-stamped at the post office and sent by certified mail.

About the Primaries

Voters will decide which candidate they want to see on their party’s ballot for the November general election.

At the polls, they will be asked which party’s ballot they prefer before entering the voting booth. Registration with either party is not required, but voters who cast ballots in the Republican primary cannot switch to voting for a Democrat in the event of a May 26 primary runoff. Democrats cannot switch either.

Primary runoffs occur when a candidate does not receive at least 50% of the votes.

You don’t have to vote in the primary to cast ballots in a runoff election.

You don’t need your voter registration card at the polls, just an approved photo ID like a driver’s license.
