Canyon Lake is under a Red Flag Warning from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday as wind gusts of up to 30 mph and humidity as low as 10% will create critical fire weather conditions.
The warning extends across most of South Central Texas.
Any fires that develop are likely to spread quickly.
The U.S. National Weather Service Austin-San Antonio said humans cause most wildfires.
The public is asked to avoid open flames, secure tow chains, use grills on pavement and obey burn bans.
A burn ban remains in place for unincorporated areas of Comal County.
Wildfire prevention tips include:
- Keep a clear, 10-foot radius around campfires and burning brush. Never leave fires unattended and always properly extinguish them.
- Use grills/smokers on gravel or paved surfaces.
- Never toss lit cigarettes on the ground. Put ashes in a metal container with a tight lid.
- Keep water stored near campfires, fire pits, grills, smokers, and burning brush.
- Maintain vehicles’ brakes and tires and secure tow chains to avoid dragging. Don’t drive on dry grass or brush.
- Water your lawn and keep grass cut. Mow lawn early in the morning and when it’s not windy or excessively dry.
