The Comal River remains closed to recreation due to high flow rates, poor water quality and debris along the riverbanks and at the Tube Chute Dam.

New Braunfels police said city officials will continue to reevaluate river conditions to determine when river recreation can resume.

“The city is closely monitoring weather conditions and has already made a number of decisions to ensure the safety of residents and visitors,” police said in a social media post.

New Braunfels Fire Department and police prepared flood-response vehicles, including swift-water rescue boats, in case they are needed.

The Canyon Lake area was unaffected by heavy rains over the last several days.

“It’s been a wonderful, steady rain, and not so hard or fast that it’s caused bad runoff or flash floods,” said Precinct 4 Commissioner Jen Crownover, who represents the north side of Canyon Lake on Commissioners Court.

Precinct  1 Commissioner Doug Leecock, who represents southside Canyon Lake, said it’s possible the area could get more rain.

“I am watching it,” he said.

Canyon Lake Gorge closed its trails today due to rain and muddy conditions.

“We will be clearing and removing fallen tree branches and debris,” staff said on social media. “If you are looking to volunteer, please call the office 830-964-5424. Tours will resume later this week, depending on the rain.”
