Rotary Club Awards Three $20,000 Scholarships to Graduating CLHS Seniors

Rotary Club President Jim Cox and Scholarship Committee member Maureen Schein awarded three $20,000 scholarships to graduating Canyon Lake High School seniors Timothy Walbeck, Chloe Gray and Isiah Eureste.

Canyon Lake High School graduating seniors Isiah Eureste, Chloe Gray and Timothy Walbeck each received a $20,000 scholarship from the Canyon Lake Rotary Club at Senior Award Night in May.

They will receive $2,500 per semester as long as they maintain a 3.0 grade-point average.

The Rotary Club already supports 12 other former CLHS students attending college. Members meet with each student once a year.

“The scholarship program is our flagship project,” said Maureen Schein, who serves on the Scholarship Committee. “While we enjoy getting out into the community  to serve with our hands, we really feel we are pouring into the life of our community by building up these students for their work later in life.”

Scholarship recipients come from “financially challenged” families.

“These are usually students who may not think they’re actually going to college, but they’ve proven themselves in the classroom” said Jean Whileyman, scholarship chair.
