Tye Preston Memorial Library (TPML) officially broke ground Tuesday on a new wing that will provide enhanced programming and services and create additional space for community gatherings.
Library Director Jenny Rodriguez with the Canyon Lake Community Library District (CLCLD) said she was thrilled with the community turnout.
“This is an exciting time for us, and we’re looking forward to the new possibilities that phases one and two of this project will allow us to explore,” she said.
The building also will include a new, expanded children’s room.
Phase 1, which is fully funded, includes a new library wing and updated, expanded community meeting rooms with A/V in every room and sound mitigation.
Phase 2, with an anticipated start in 2027, will convert existing community meeting rooms into a larger children’s area, separate teen and adult areas, create a dedicated children’s programming space and provide new AWE children’s computers.
Phase 3, which also kicks off in 2027, will allow the library to renovate the remainder of the building.
“This last phase will include additional study for volunteers and staff, and larger, enhanced makerspace and teen areas,” she said.
Construction is expected to be completed by 2028.
TPML needs to raise an additional $2 million for the third phase of its expansion project.
