Canyon Lake did not flood today, but storms could redevelop as early as 9 p.m. and bring heavy rainfall to areas just west of I-35 between Austin and San Antonio through early morning Friday.
U.S. National Weather Service Austin-San Antonio meteorologist Eric Platt said anyone living near low-water crossings should check road conditions before venturing out Friday morning.
Areas around Canyon Lake received between 3/10 of an inch to 2 1/4 inches of rain over the last 24 hours.
Rain rates were more variable on the south side of Canyon Lake and highest west of Canyon Lake, he said.
A rain gauge maintained by the Edwards Aquifer Authority on the north side of Canyon Lake recorded 1.15 inches of rain.
Other automated rain gauges in the area recorded 2 1/4 inches of rain at FM 311 and U.S. Highway 281; 3/10 of an inch along FM 46 in the Vintage Oaks area; 7/10 of an inch near Canyon City; and 7/10 of an inch just north of Canyon City on FM 306.
Platt said the area of FM 306 at Purgtory Road may have received an inch to 1/2 inches of rainfall.
Comal County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Shawn Trevino said no damage or flooding was reported in Canyon Lake today. Krueger Canyon in New Braunfels was the only road closure.
A flood watch remains in effect through Friday evening. A flood warning was issued earlier today for the San Antonio metro area.
The flood watch across the I-35 corridor and portions of the Hill Country and coastal plains means life-threatening flooding is possible; additional rain amounts of 1-4 inches wwith isolated totals up to 6 inches; and rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying, flood-prone locations could flood quickly.
