Athletic Booster Club Raises Funds for Hawks

Canyon Lake High School’s athletics program soared to greater glory last school year with every sport making it to playoffs or championships for the first time ever.
Canyon Lake Athletic Booster Club is gearing up for another winning season.
“As far as sports, last school year was our most successful year,” booster club President Mike Atiee said of the Hawks’ overall success. “And with that brought a lot of more interest” in magazines and newspapers.
“It’s kind of blowing up on us because of the success we’ve had on and off the field.”
But the booster club is a champion in its own right, backing Canyon Lake High School’s athletic prowess by paying for team meals during travel to and from games, and by helping coaches with incidentals.
It supports athletic programs, student athletes and coaching staff of Canyon Lake High School, he said. The organization operates under UIL and Comal ISD regulations with an appointed board of directors.
Each year, the club awards ten $1,000 scholarships as well.
“It’s kind of like a support group,” Atiee said. “We’re not just here for football, although that’s the most-prominent thing. For example, the track coach might come to us and ask for certain items they need for training or what-not. It’s just like a teacher. You hear that teachers sometimes need to go into their own pockets to buy things.”
2018-19 officers are Atiee, First Vice President Michelle Weber, Second Vice President Christy Bryan, Treasurer Tricia Gore, Secretary Elisha McCutchen, Membership/Fundraising April Milner, Parliamentarian Jamie Slater and Publicity Chair Mark Robinson
To finance athletes’ needs, the booster club sold merchandise during registration earlier this month, offering t-shirts, caps, athletic bags and other items for sale to students and their parents.
Planning also is underway for the booster club’s biggest fundraiser on Oct. 5, Casino Night.
Memberships, which range from $20 for senior citizens to $1,000 also are available.
