South Central Texas’ May 4 #Big Give raised $34,182 for Community Resource & Recreation Center (CRRC) of Canyon Lake, one of the area’s biggest charities.
The non-profit will use funds contributed by 154 donors to finance construction of a new building and buy food and pay utility bills for residents in crisis, says Resource Program Director Maureen Schein.
“We were very pleased with the support we received from our community,” she says. “Out of more than 600 non-profits participating in The Big Give, CRRC – in little old Canyon Lake – came in 25th in funds raised! That says tons about our community and the hearts of caring and compassion that reside here.”
CRRC, located at 1917 FM 2673, Canyon Lake (Sattler), serves the residents of Canyon Lake by providing vital social service resources and life-enriching recreational and educational opportunities.
The group came in sixth out of 59 agencies listed under Poverty and Hunger category — $10,000 ahead of the San Antonio Food Bank. The organization also placed sixth out of 100 medium-sized groups.
Funds are badly needed as United Way funding is increasingly divided between a growing number of non-profits in Comal County.
On Tuesday, May 9, CRRC receives bids for construction of its new building from contractors.
The nonprofit hopes to break ground on June 1.
