Are the Boat Ramps Open?

There are 23 boat ramps located around Canyon Lake.

“Are the boat ramps open?” is the number-one question visitors (and more than a few locals) ask each week. All boat ramps and facilities operated by Comal County remain open during the COVID-19 pandemic. All USACE facilities are closed. Beginning April 3, Comal County Sheriff’s Deputies will strictly enforce pre-existing rules for county-owned boat ramps. They can only be used to launch and recovr boats, not as gathering places or entry points to the lake shore.

April 1: Canyon Lake is 93.9-percent full at 906.15 feet.

The status of each boat ramp depends on the level of water in Canyon Reservoir. The parameters are not the same for each boat ramp.

All boat ramps operated by Water Oriented Recreation District of Comal County (WORD) are currently open and are not affected by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ (USACE) decision to close most of its parks and facilities in response to the COVID-19 outbreak. Only Ramp #22 is closed.

During the COVID-19 outbreak, click here to see a list of USACE closures. USACE has just leased Comal Park to WORD. WORD will not reopen the park on April 1.

These are the metrics listed online by USACE, that are used to determine whether ramps are open or closed due to lake levels. USACE, unlike Comal County, does not provide real-time data. See below for Comal County engineer’s link for real-time status of boat ramps operated by the county.

All nine county boat ramps are operated by Water Oriented Recreation District of Comal County (WORDCC): #s 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 11, 22 and 23.
