Canyon Lake Adds New Voting Precinct

County Commissioners created a new voting precinct for Canyon Lake after area growth pushed Precinct 105 out of compliance with Texas' elections code.

Rapid growth in Comal County has resulted in the creation of a new voting precinct for Canyon Lake.

Parts of Precinct 105 will be merged into a new Precinct, 108, next year in accordance with Texas Election Code 42.006, which limits the size of precincts to 5,000 registered voters.

Comal County Commissioners authorized the change to Canyon Lake’s voting precincts on April 25 after hearing from county Elections Commissioner Cynthia Jaqua at their weekly meeting.

She said Precinct 105 currently has 5,172 registered voters. The newly created Precinct 108 will have approximately 1,200 registered voters.

Polling location for the new precinct as well as for Precinct 105 will remain at Lakeside Country Club. However, the county is in discussions with two area churches to create a new polling spot for Comal County’s 29th precinct.

Canyon Lake Commissioner Donna Eccleston, Pct. 1, said it isn’t easy for the county to find Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant facilities.

“I don’t know if this means we are approving the growth, but it is very much highlighting the difficulty we have finding suitable places in the county that are ADA-compliant and can handle the voting, some place that will let the county in for three days,” she said.

If I live in Tom’s Creek, will my voting location change? GVTC has a big auditorium that should be used. They charge customers outrageous prices so they really should be a place to vote.
