Canyon Lake Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Kim Collora went to a Bulverde dentist to get her teeth cleaned the other day and was surprised when staff complimented her about the new mural painted on the FM 2673 side of the chamber building.

The paint was barely dry.

Artists with the Canyon Lake Art Guild (CLAG) applied the finishing touches on the scenic panorama Tuesday.

They recreated images from the chamber’s 2025 Visitors Guide to showcase the area’s beauty, recreational opportunities, and even a Cretaceous-era dinosaur featured at the Heritage Museum of the Texas Hill Country.

“I hope the whole community loves it,” Collora said.

She wants Canyon Lake to be known as the town of murals, modeled on nearby ‘Bootiful Wimberley,’ where visitors are treated to the sight of six-foot-tall, custom-designed cowboy boots in front of businesses.

So far, only the two Wildflour restaurants, located on the south and north sides of Canyon Lake, feature outdoor murals.

CLAG’s Liz Tashakori said the mural’s design kept changing to accommodate the chamber’s ideas about which images should be featured.

“I think it came out really good,: she said. “That’s the way projects work.”‘

Other CLAG artists involved in the mural’s creation are Debbie Alvarado, Sandra Brenkis, Patricia Buford, Robert Mitchell Cook, Elizabeth Ferriby, Tracy Fortune, LeeAnn Green, Ellyn Hickey, Deborah Howard, Dana Hunt, Cheryl Johnson, Jacquelynn Shiley, Liz Tashakori and Brandi Wickenheiser.

“The combined talents of our participating art guild artists have produced an outstanding, photo-worthy production that the chamber will be able to enjoy for many years to come,” said CLAG’s Shell Fitzpatrick, a realtor and photographer who’s collected thousands of photos of Canyon Lake.

Canyon Lake Ace Hardware donated paint and supplies needed for the mural.

Like Collora, Tashakori hopes murals catch on quickly with area businesses — and is starting her own mural business.
