Canyon Lake Boat Ramp #1, 579 Skyline Dr., reopened today to motorized vessels after the lake rose to 889.90 feet, making it the first of nine county-operated ramps to fully reopen after prolonged drought.
The courtesy dock remains closed.
Comal County said recent floods have carried debris into the lake. Boaters are asked to exercise caution and to share ramp space with others launching or loading.
All other county ramps are still closed due to recent flooding along the Guadalupe River, and also because the lake has not risen enough to reopen them.
Boat Ramp #1 underwent significant upgrades while closed.
There are now parking spaces for 16 trailers and 20 non-trailers. Anyone who parks in a non-designated area is subject to fines or towing.
Riprap — loose stone — was added to prevent erosion and improve long-term safety. The tract was expanded by .422 acres to allow for installation of pipe rail to contain vehicles along the west side of the easement.
Rules
New signage was added to explain the rules in the ramp’s water safety zone.
Obstructing parking or launching/recovery of watercraft activities is prohibited.
Swimming, fishing, scuba diving or access to the lake is prohibited unless launching, recovering, inspecting or repairing a watercraft. Idle speed only is allowed in wake zones.
One life jacket per person is required on boats. Littering and trespassing on private property is prohibited. “Public nuisance” behavior will not be tolerated.
Trash bags are available at mesh bag stations.
No foam products, glass or open plastic containers of five ounces or smaller are allowed on the water.
