Canyon Lake Noon Lions Club presented Mountain Valley Middle School with a $2,798 check Monday for its Essential Academics program.
Essential Academics supports students with varying degrees of learning disabilities.
According to Comal ISD’s website, in addition to alternative grade-level curriculum, Essential Academics helps each student develop the skills needed for independent living, including social skills, functional academics, pre-vocational and vocational skills, self-help and activities of daily living.
Lion Diane Schaule said former Comal ISD Mobility and Orientation Director Angela Tabb, also a Lion, reached out to the Noon Lions Club on social media to see if they could help Essential Academics students receive much-needed equipment, textbooks and hands-on learning activities that teach useful life skills.
MVMS Essential Academics teachers Lisa Johnson and Tonya Waller developed a wish list of items and the Noon Lions did the rest, providing funding for students for the 2021-22 school year “and beyond.”
“We serve,” Schaule said. “It’s all about community.”
Lions Clubs International’s mission is to serve communities and make a difference through kindness and action, she said.
