Pedernales Electric Cooperative (PEC) says it’s following a winter preparedness plan ahead of sub-freezing temperatures and the possibility of icy precipitation this weekend.

“At this time, we’re closely monitoring the weather forecast and assessing our staffing and resources to ensure our crews are ready to respond to outages as safely and as quickly as possible,” said Nathan Fulmer, PEC’s chief operations officer of Distribution.

Measures include:

  • Ensuring ample crews who are staged and ready to respond
  • Making sure vehicles are stocked and winter-ready
  • Confirming facilities are stocked with supplies and portable heaters
  • Working with suppliers to ensure adequate reserves are available
  • Ramping up Call Center staffing as-needed

Customers are encouraged to plan for outages in advance.

In a statement, PEC said it cannot guarantee uninterrupted or continuous power and “strongly” encourages customers to develop an emergency plan for backup power or shelter.

To report an outage, text the word “outage” to 25022 from the mobile number associated with a PEC account. Outages also can be reported online at myPEC.com/outage, through SmartHub, or by calling PEC’s automated outage line at 888-883-3379.
