Federal investigators have identified a concerning connection between ByHeart Whole Nutrition infant formula and recent cases of infant botulism.Comal County Public Health is sharing this update from state and federal health officials about a multistate outbreak of infant botulism linked to ByHeart infant formula.
Texas is among the states affected.
Yes, this update is a little long, but the information is important and worth the read. The safety of our families is always our top priority, and we want parents and caregivers to have the facts they need.
Federal investigators have identified a concerning connection between ByHeart Whole Nutrition infant formula and recent cases of infant botulism. As of November fourteenth, twenty three infants from thirteen states, including Texas, have been hospitalized with suspected or confirmed infant botulism.

CDC and FDA are urging parents and caregivers to stop using all ByHeart Whole Nutrition infant formula immediately. This includes cans and single serve packets. ByHeart has issued a full recall of these products.

📣 What parents and caregivers should do:
1. Stop using any ByHeart Whole Nutrition infant formula immediately.
2. Set it aside and do not feed it to your baby.
3. Wash bottles, scoops, counters, and any surfaces that may have touched the formula with hot soapy water or a dishwasher.
4. If possible, take a picture of the lot number and best by date. If you still have powdered formula, label it “Do Not Use” and keep it stored safely for one month in case public health investigators need to test it. If your baby remains healthy after one month, throw the formula away.

Comal County Public Health will continue to monitor this situation and share updates as they become available. If you have concerns about your infant’s health, contact your pediatrician right away.
