City Closes Tube Chute Park in Advance of Potential Overnight Rainfall

Due to the potential for heavy rainfall, the US National Weather Service Austin-San Antonio Texas has issued a Flood Watch for the region until Thursday, July 16 and a Flash Flood Watch has been issued for Comal County until 11:20pm tonight. In anticipation of possible rising water levels, the City of New Braunfels will close Tube Chute Park effective at 7:00pm on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.

The park will remain closed until City staff can evaluate conditions on Wednesday morning and determine if the park is safe to reopen. The closure is being implemented as a precaution should heavy rainfall cause rapidly changing conditions along the river and rising water levels.

The City of New Braunfels and Comal County have activated their joint Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to monitor weather conditions overnight and coordinate response efforts as needed. The Texas Division of Emergency Management has also activated its District Emergency Operations Center and has resources deployed throughout the region on standby to assist if necessary.

To prepare for the potential impacts of flooding, City crews have pre-positioned barricades in flood-prone areas to facilitate road closures should conditions warrant. In addition, the New Braunfels Fire Department has swift water rescue boat crews ready to respond if needed.

Residents are encouraged to monitor weather conditions closely and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rainfall. City road closures will be posted at newbraunfels.gov/roadclosures as conditions change.

Motorists are reminded to Turn Around, Don't Drown when encountering water over a roadway. Never drive around barricades or through flooded streets. Even a small amount of moving water can sweep a vehicle away.
