Comal County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) deputies are investigating the drowning death of a Hispanic man in his 30s whose body was found floating near Boat Ramp #6 around 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Dec. 16 update: The dead man has been identified as 27-year-old Medardo Mendoza III of Canyon Lake.

CCSO Public Information Officer Jennifer Smith said deputies arrived at the 2000 block of Canyon Lake Drive after receiving a call from witnesses who were fishing when they saw the body of a man floating nearby.

The man is believed to have been submerged in Canyon Lake for three to four days. An all-terrain vehicle and pair of boots belonging to the man were located in the same area.

Smith said the man’s identity has not been release pending notification of next-of-kin. He was pronounced dead via phone by Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Tom Clark, who ordered an autopsy.
