CLHS Cheer Coach Duggan Resigns

Share
Cheer Coach Nikki Duggan is leaving Canyon Lake High School for Hays High School in Buda. In January, Canyon Lake High School cheerleaders became 4A UIL Spirit State Champions under her direction.

Canyon Lake High School Cheer Coach Nikki Duggan has accepted a new position at Hays High School, the school announced on its Facebook page today.

“CLHS is very sad to see Coach Duggan go but supports her in her next endeavor,” it posted. “Coach Duggan has been the one and only cheer coach for CLHS and over the last 11 years, Coach Duggan has brought home an NCA National Championship and UIL State Championship among many other successes. Coach Duggan, you will be missed by your Hawk family!!!”

Duggan also will serve as cheer coach for Hays High School in Buda.

Canyon Lake High School’s 18 cheerleaders won 4A UIL Spirit State Championship on Jan. 18, beating out 83 other teams with their fight songs, crowd-leading cheers and band chants.

Last year, the girls were silver medalists who won for their crowd-leading performance.

“My kids are very persistent and they really wanted it,” said Duggan, who also taught social studies at Canyon Lake High School. “So they put in the time and effort every single day when we practiced. When you want something like that so bad you’re going to train 100 percent. We’re all in. They have been that way from the start.”

Stephanie Blackwood also choreographed and coached the team.
