University of Texas graduate Blake Hays is the new principal of Canyon Lake High School, a UIL 4A-rated facility located at 8555 FM 32 in Fischer.
The former principal of Dripping Springs Middle School formally introduced himself today on CISD Canyon Lake High’s website and Facebook page.
In his own words:
“Hello and Happy Fourth of July.
I wanted to introduce myself to the school and community of Canyon Lake. My name is Blake Hays, and I am coming to Canyon Lake after 9 years in Dripping Springs. Prior to that I lived and worked in North Carolina for 18 years. Don’t worry, I am a Texas boy. I was born and raised in Dallas, and went to the University of Texas at Austin. I have been an administrator for 15 years, and worked at all levels (elementary through high school). Outside of education, I have been a custodian, bus driver, outdoor instructor, and spent some time in construction. I am married and have two sons; one is a high school junior and one is heading to Texas State this fall.
I am very excited about Canyon Lake High School and have watched this school grow and become a great source of pride for the community. Just walking through the halls of the school recently, and talking with a handful of students, I can tell this is a great place. The kids were positive, the building looks great, and the staff I have met is eager. That is a perfect combination for a successful school. Why the change in principal? After some great work at CLHS, Corbee Wunderlich has been promoted to a district level position and will continue to be a strong voice in Comal ISD.
My goal this year is to learn what works well in this school and what can be better. I am a firm believer that schools become great through the collaboration of students, parents, and staff members. I am a straight talker and hope folks approach me that same way.
I look forward to working together with all of you.
So as the heat of the summer rises, find some cool water and try to enjoy yourselves. If you get a chance, come see me for a Meet and Greet on August 9th at 6:30PM at the high school. I look forward to becoming a part of this community.”
