Canyon High School (CLS) students Aaden Thomas and Josh Gideon captured eighth place at the Texas High School Bass Association’s Hill Country Division tournament at Lake Buchanan on Sept. 26.

They weren’t the only students enrolled in Comal ISD’s Bass Fishing Program, which includes 31 anglers and 16 two-member teams, to place in the event.

Smithson Valley High School’s (SVHS) Evan Velez and Evan Koop placed first. Braxton Alexander and Cade Dornburg, also SVHS students, placed fifth.

The Bass Fishing Program is part of the Texas High School Bass Association, which provides high school students the opportunity to compete in organized tournaments. The season includes five tournaments.

The next tournament is scheduled for Oct. 17 at Canyon Lake followed by a third tournament on Nov. 14 at Lake LBJ. The final two are scheduled for Feb. 13 on Lake Travis and for March 6 on Lake Medina.

The Comal ISD Bass Fishing Club is part of the Comal ISD Intramural Sports Program and is open to high school students from across the district.

Each high school in the district has a campus sponsor including Ryan Frech for CHS and Memorial Early College High, Victor and Ruth Escamilla for Canyon Lake High School, and Jason Pape for Davenport High and SVHS.
