Saved by Grace Ministries launches its third annual coat drive Oct. 31.

“On Oct. 31, when Sattler closes down for trick-or-treaters, Saved by Grace ministries sets up a coat rack and anyone needing a jacket is able to take one, or as may as they need,” says organizer Melinda Johnson.

Coats will be available in front of AMZ Realtors, 1642 FM2673, Canyon Lake.

Johnson says anyone who needs a coat or wants to donate one can call Saved by Grace Ministries at 830-935-4122.  Regular updates will be posted to this site.

A cool way to give back

Johnson says kids love the coat drive.

“The people taking the jackets are usually kids and I hear time and time again, ‘oh my sister needs a coat,'” she says. “We had one guy forsake getting candy with his friends and took his time searching for the perfect jacket for his little sister, who was sick at home. The best story was a little girl who was in desperate need of a jacket. She had cancer and was with a foster parent, you could tell financially they were struggling. That little girl walked away with a brand new leather jacket. You know the kind that’s knee length lined with wool. It was hot that night too; she didn’t care as she put it on and wore it while trick o treating with such pride.”

Many jackets from lost-and-found bins of Canyon Lake-area schools. Gently used items are rewashed and hung on the donation racks.

“This one kid was so happy to find his long lost hoodie,” Johnson says. “I love this town and the people in it. It’s such a cool way to give back to the community.”
