Comal County Opens Vaccines to All Adults Monday

Share
To date, Comal County has administered over 20,000 vaccines and plans to continue until everyone who wants a vaccine receives one.

Comal County will follow Texas’ health guidelines and open COVID-19 vaccines to all adults on Monday.

The move follows an announcement earlier this week from Texas’ Expert Vaccine Allocation Panel, which decided to open vaccination to everyone who falls under the current Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) emergency-use authorizations.

On Monday,  the county will open its COVID-19 Standby List to all qualifying adults. The county uses the Moderna vaccine. To register for the list, visit www.co.comal.tx.us. As vaccine becomes available, residents on the standby list will be contacted to schedule an appointment. Providers are directed to continue to prioritize older adults who are the most at risk of severe disease, hospitalization or death.

Comal County Public Information Officer Cary Zayas said state health officials expect vaccine supplies to increase next week. To date, Public Health has administered over 20,000 vaccines.

Comal County Health Director Cheryl Fraser said her department won’t stop until everyone who wants a vaccine receives one.

“Public Health is excited about vaccinating more residents to help fight the COVID-19 pandemic,” she said. “Our offices have worked hard to make it available to those who qualify, and this change means more people will have the chance to receive a vaccine.”
