Comal County today reported the COVID-19 death of a Canyon Lake woman in her 50s, and added 70 new COVID-19 cases, bringing its total to 19,746.
The Canyon Lake woman died Oct. 14 at a San Antonio hospital, becoming the 456th fatality reported since the county began tracking the pandemic in March 2020.
In a statement, Comal County Public Information Officer Cary Zayas said county hospitals are caring for 10 COVID-19 patients. Of those, three are in intensive care and two are on ventilators. Approximately 100% of these patients are unvaccinated.
Some 59.04% of all county residents are fully vaccinated, she said. The percentage of fully vaccinated was previously calculated on the number of residents who are 12 years of age and older. The percentage now includes residents five years of age and older, which brought down the percentage.
The county’s Public Health Department is administering Moderna COVID-19 vaccine for those 18 and older, and Pfizer vaccines for anyone 12 years and older. The county is awaiting a standing order from the Public Health Authority for Region 8 so it can provide vaccines for children ages five and up.
Those who are high-risk and qualify for a third dose or a booster also can call to schedule an appointment for a vaccine. The number is 830-221-1150.
How can approximately 100% be unvaccinated? It either is or it isn’t 100%.
You are correct but we follow the county’s language since they are using reporting guidelines from the state.
