A Comal County child under the age of 18 died of COVID-19 at a San Antonio hospital on Oct. 20, becoming the county’s first pediatric death.

Comal County Public Health Director Cheryl Fraser declined to release the age of the child.

“Public Health doesn’t release the age of anyone who has passed, only the age range,” said county Public Information Officer Cary Zayas.

The total number of deceased is now 464.

In a statement, Zayas also reported 25 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the county’s total since March 2020 to 19,996.

Comal County hospitals are caring for 11 COVID-19 patients. Of those, two are in intensive care. There are no COVID patients on ventilators. Not all COVID-positive patients hospitalized in Comal County are necessarily county residents.

Public Health is administering Moderna COVID-19 vaccines for those 18 and older, and Pfizer vaccines for anyone five years and older. Those who are high risk and qualify for a third dose or a booster also can call to schedule an appointment for a vaccine.

The number to call is 830-221-1150. The county said call volume is high and asks the public to be patient.

What’s going to happen when all the spaces on the covid-19 proof of vaccination card are full that is a question I never wanted to ask but I knew eventually I would have to because I’m afraid of the answer!

This is the first I have heard that ‘“Public Health doesn’t release the age of anyone who has passed, only the age range,” said county Public Information Officer Cary Zayas.’ I see the ages of people who have deceased all the time.
