Created in 2002, the H‑E‑B Excellence in Education Awards are designed to honor outstanding public school professionals and to thank them for their dedication and commitment.

Comal Independent School District (Comal ISD) is a semi-finalist for 2019 H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards, the school district announced last week.

This is the first year that Comal ISD has entered the prestigious awards, which recognizes teachers, principals, school districts, early childhood providers and school boards from across the state of Texas, according to a press release from the district.

“This honor is a testament to the hard work and dedication that every teacher, staff member, administrator and parent gives every day to our students,” said Comal ISD Superintendent Andrew Kim. “I am honored to work alongside each of them.”

According to H-E-B Public Affairs Manager Jill Reynolds more than 1,500 applications were received this year.

“Our judges definitely had their work cut out for them in narrowing the field,” Reynolds said in the notification letter. “Obviously, our readers were very impressed by Comal ISD’s written comments and extensive professional accomplishments.”
