Comal ISD Offers Free COVID-19 Testing for Students and Staff

Comal ISD will offer free COVID-19 testing to students and staff beginning Friday.
In an email to parents today, the district said it will use Curative, a testing provider that uses a self-collected, shallow nasal PCR test.
Results will be provided within 24 to 48 hours.
However, the testing is only available Fridays in the district’s Support Services building, 1404 IH-35 North, New Braunfels.
Parents can schedule an appointment by visiting curative.com and scanning a QR code attached in a flyer emailed today.
By visiting curative.com, parents also can find other available locations that offer testing at different times during the week.
On Sept. 23, Comal ISD spokesperson Steve Stanford told MyCanyonLake.com in an email that the district had decided to opt out of free testing provided by the Texas Education Agency (TEA), which allocated $2,466,508 to Comal ISD to pay for weekly COVID-19 testing for students and staff.
TEA later updated its site to show the district opted in on Sept. 23.
On Sept. 16, TEA launched a School Year 21-22 COVID-19 Testing Program with the help of an $800 million federal grant administered by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS).
