New Braunfels Police Department says Comal River closed due to heavy rains May 18.

“Due to heavy rains overnight, the Comal River is now closed to all recreation.

As of this release, the Dry Comal Creek (which feeds the Comal River) is currently flowing at over 4700cfs (cubic feet per second), while the Comal River itself is flowing at approximately 4500cfs. At that rate, water is currently flowing over the top of the Tube Chute Dam.

Forecasters are predicting more rain over the next few days, so river conditions will continue to be reevaluated and a determination will be made about when recreation on the Comal River can resume. Another press release will be sent once that determination is made.

NOTE: The Guadalupe River in the city limits of New Braunfels remains open to recreation, although caution is advised due to faster than usual flows and murky water. Be wary of debris that may be in the river due to runoff and always wear a life vest when going in the water.”
